RUSSIAN TRANSCRIPTION OF THAI WORDS
The Thai language contains 5 tones: middle, low, falling, high and rising .
In the Russian transcription for Thai words the following symbols are used to indicate the tones of a syllable:
ˋ - low tone
ˆ - falling tone
ˊ - high tone
ˇ - rising tone
The middle tone in the transcription is not indicated in any way.
The letter x after some consonants [ кˣ ], [ пˣ ], [ тˣ ] denotes aspiration, that is, it deafens these sounds. In this case, the letter x is not pronounced as a separate sound [x]. It only slightly changes the consonant to which it refers.
Colon symbol : in transcription it denotes a long vowel. For example, a: means a long vowel a. Syllables containing long vowels (with two dots) are read deliberately for a long time, about two to three times longer than in the Russian word.
The vowel, denoted in the transcription to the dictionary by the symbol ə (in the international transcription the symbol ɤ ), is pronounced as an average between Russian letters "е" and "э".
